November 17th saw Top Gear Race Management board a plane to Las Vegas Nevada for the XIII Super Karts USA (SKUSA) Super Nationals.
Top Gear Race Management was attending the event as Race Support to Canadian Driver #15 John Kwong who was entered in the G1 Class. This would be the second time Top Gear Race Management would crew for John at the Supernats. John was piloting a 2006 PTK TM Powered Six speed ICC shod with MG Yellow race rubber.
“Supernats” is the premier event in the SKUSA Calendar that rounds off the season and takes place on a temporary circuit around the parking lot of the Rio All Suites Hotel and Casino.
This event covers 4 days with 4 Practice sessions, Qualifying, 3 Heats and a Final. Many great names of Motor Racing attend this even and this year was no different with 7 times Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher driving in the Superpro Class along with F1 Pilots Sebastien Buemi and Nelson Piquet Jr. Many of the other classes included great motor racing drivers such as Dan Wheldon, Alex Speed and Buddy Rice to name just a few.
All classes are hotly contested with the G1 class being no different so qualifying well is essential as all heats are ran from the same qualifying position . Antonio Dettori posted pole with a 42.452 and John posted 22 place from 37 drivers with a 43.427, just under one second from pole to 22nd.
Throughout the Heats John would make blistering starts taking as many as six Karts by turn 1 and steadily gained places on the track to raise himself up to Twelfth on the grid for the final. A good run in the final would eventually bring him home in ninth position a fantastic top 10 result in a field of very quick, seasoned factory backed Karters.
Top Gear Race Management would also like to recognize the valuable work of the second member of the tuning team Brent Bolster and hopes to forge a long tuning career with him. Also to Team Apollo Motorsports who did a fantastic job on hauling the equipment and setting up the pit area and for being just a great friendly team to operate with.
Top Gear Race Management would also like to thank John for the opportunity to work with him again and hope that we can hook up again next year.
