Top Gear Race Management student Coltin McCaughan # 202 arrived on the National Stage with a bang during the final round of the Western Canadian Championships held at Varsity Speed Park Calgary Alberta Canada on Sunday 24th July 2011.
At this 3 day finale to the West’s prestigious Karting Championship Coltin piloting an Apollo Motorsports M4 Tony Kart quickly found the set up and set about a solid test session on the Friday fine tuning the Kart for the high speed Calgary circuit, along with his team mate Parker Thompson it was quickly apparent that the Tony Kart was going to be the Kart to beat.
Saturday brought a solid performance from Coltin with a top 5 finish out of the strongest junior field ever to take to the Western Canadian Championships. Sunday saw a few small tweaks to Coltins Kart which paid dividends with a magnificent win in the pre final his first at National level. Pole for the main feature did not faze Coltin and after a quick coaching session from TGRM on how to gain the advantage off the start Coltin made a text book launch across the line to go on to hold down a start to finish win 15 Kart lengths ahead of his team mate Parker Thompson.
A truly magnificent domination of the Sunday event has surely got his competitors taking note and TGRM is very pleased to be involved with such an exciting up and coming young driver.
Great Job Coltin and Louis (Mechanic / Father)
Also TGRM was crewing for Apollo Motorsports Tony Kart Pilot Adam Dowler in Senior Rotax. Adam was always in the top ten with the best that Canada has to offer in Senior Rotax and only a technical issue in the Sunday pre final pushed him down to start 14th in the feature race. A truly gladiatorial drive from Adam saw him get up to 5th position on the final lap of the gruelling 20 lap final only to lose 2 places on the 3rd last corner when an aggressive move was put on him Adam wisely decided a finish was better than a crash and he finally came in 7th. Greatly matured this year Adam will be at the front next year competing for that place on Team Canada in the Rotax Grand Finals.
TGRM also congratulates Apollo Motorsports Tony Kart Micro Max Pilot Griffon Dowler on his Western Canadian Championship title, a name to put in your book for future reference (I’m going to get his autograph now !!)
A great weekend for Apollo Motorsports Tony Kart team .
Go Green !!

A great day for Tony Kart Apollo Motorsports Drivers
Pictured is #202 Tony Kart Driver Coltin McCaughan. After a gruelling 6 race tour of Western Canada from West Pacific Coast of British Columbia (Greg Moore Race Way Chilliwack) to The Prairie Province of Saskatchewan (Martensville Race Way Saskatoon) ending in the Province of Alberta (Stratotech Park Fort Saskatchewan) the WCC finally crowned its Champions and declared its contribution to Team Canada at the Rotax Grand Finals in Italy.
Top Gear Race Management was not only Race Director for the series but also had a few pupils taking part in the series.
In DD2 Chelsey Wilson fought with some of the best Karters in Canada and with consistent placing came in third overall in the Championships the final two days saw Wilson drive beyond any drive I had witnessed from her before and signalled that a maturing Chelsey would be a force to be reckoned with next year.
Junior Rotax Driver Gianfranco Sartor was showing well in the Championship lying 5th before the last rounds at Stratotech Park but a frightening crash in Official Practice sent Sartor to Hospital and out of the Championship running. Thankfully Gianfranco suffered nothing more than heavy bruising and TGRM wishes him a speedy recovery.
Mini Max Pilot Mark Newson started the final 2 days heading the Championship table but was mindful that the Championship was still up for grabs and coolly calculated what he needed to do to clinch the title. Despite the return of Parker Thompson from his season of racing in the USA Newson stuck to his game plan and secured the Championship and a place in the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas winter tour in California 2011.
To all TGRM Pupils that took part in the WCC congratulations on your performance and continued learning.
During February and March 2010 TGRM supported Team Tony Kart Apollo Motorsports at the 2010 Challenge of the Americas Gators Series in Fontana Southern California and Sanoma Sears Point Northern California. Drivers Philipe Gelinas (Senior Rotax Max) Noel Dowler (Senior Rotax Max and Rotax Max DD2) and Adam Dowler (Junior Rotax Max).
All drivers performed extremely well with Philipe Gelinas taking the Championship and securing a place at the Rotax Max World Finals later this year in La Conca Italy.
TGRM would also like to recognize the rest of the support team that gelled together so well to pull off this achievement.
